What It Feels Like To Be Fat (Part 2)

Here are 10 more things I remember about being fat.

  1. Basketball – I used to avoid it because I would get incredibly winded. I never realized how much being fat robbed me of this joy.
  2. Stamina - My energy level is up all day. I can workout for an hour in the morning, go for a 3 mile walk during lunch, play basketball after work, and still come home with energy.
  3. Low Reach – I can now bend over and grab items out of a lower cabinet easily. It used to be a struggle to even reach and get an item from the lower shelf of a grocery store.
  4. Ewwww - I never knew it was possible to have regular bowel movements. Yes, most people that overeat constantly do not realize this. Oh, and flatulence is down a good 90-95%. (But can you really eliminate this completely?)
  5. Standing - It used to hurt to stand in one position for too long. (i.e. in church or at the grocery store deciding on an item). Now, it is comfortable to have a stand-up conversation with someone.
  6. Stairs - This one should go without saying, but I no longer have a fast heartbeat at the top of a flight of stairs.
  7. Bounce and Jiggle – If you are fat, try jumping. You will notice your chest, stomach, and other areas continue to bounce long after you have hit the ground. I can now run, jump, or do whatever I want without this feeling. (Ok, it’s still there a little, but it’s rapidly going away.)
  8. Showering - It’s a lot easier to reach and clean everything without fat getting in the way!
  9. The Scale – I used to fear knowing what I weighed. I avoided doctor’s visits because I would have to face the truth. Now, I will weigh myself every day before I get in the shower. If I happen to gain 5 lbs, I’ll be able to pinpoint the problem and correct it quickly. There is no excuse for gaining back 10, 20, 50, or 100 pounds.
  10. Hugging - When my wife and I hug, we are actually close. My belly no longer gets in the way.

The reason human beings do not change is because we are comfortable with where we are. I thought eating as much of whatever I desired would bring me happiness. The truth is that it made me feel good, but it also caused me to miss out on at least these 20 things I mentioned in parts 1 and 2 of this post. In reading this list, I can’t believe I ever let myself become comfortable with being fat. Now, I’ll never have to get fat again to remember what it felt like.
