I still tip the scales at 240 lbs. However, it was only 10 weeks ago that I was approaching 300 lbs. One of the things I never want to forget is what it feels like to be fat. If I can remember what that feels like, I’ll never want to go back. Granted, I’m sure I’ll see a lot more benefits the closer I get to my goal weight. But, these are the things that I have noticed thus far.
If you are fat and can identify with these things, ask yourself if it would be worth it to change. Warning: If you have been thin your entire life, you may not understand much of this list.
- Control - For the first time, I feel like I have control over my food choices and how much I eat. This is a first for me. I may still eat pizza in the future, but it won’t be because it has control over me.
- Sitting up – Whether from a chair, couch, or bed, getting up used to be all about rolling quickly to gain momentum. Now, I just get up–it’s amazing!
- Tying my shoes – I used to have to hike one leg over the other since my arms couldn’t reach over my stomach to get to my shoes. Those days are gone.
- Arms - My arms used to feel like they were 10 feet from my torso, as if I was a some sort of ogre. Now, they feel as if they are a part of my body again. (Unless you’ve been really fat, you won’t get this one!)
- Plumber’s Disease – As your belly gets bigger, you wear your pants lower and lower to avoid getting a larger size. This causes shirts to untuck easily and buttage to show frequently. Now I can comfortably wear pants higher which eliminates all of these problems.
- Hunger Pangs – I am eating fewer calories (about 1,200) than ever before without feeling hungry. My mood use to shift after missing a meal by just 1 hour. Now, my body feels normal all day, regardless of when I eat meals.
- Indian Style – Did you know fat people can’t sit Indian style? The reason is the imbalance caused by the stomach area!
- Desk Space – I can sit closer to my desk since my stomach has shrunk.
- Mobility - It feels comfortable to drive my wife’s two door car again. I don’t feel as if I am spilling out of the seat. I haven’t flown yet, but I’m sure I’ll feel the same way when I do that again.
- Look Around – Yes, my neck is MUCH smaller. Looking down and side-to-side is much improved. When you feel like your head is actually separate from your torso, it’s amazing.
Tomorrow I will give you 10 more things that I remember about being fat!
