Ok, so a couple of weeks ago I went to Taco Bell. I know, I know, that’s not on our new “healthier lifestyle” diet, but what’s done is done. The point is…I left the drive-thru window without getting my debit card back.
I realized what I had done as soon as I discovered it was missing. So I called the visa number and cancelled it with the help of some automated voice person/thing. Michael and I assumed (correctly) that Visa would automatically send me another debit card. But I’ve waited and waited, and not having a debit card has not been easy. I don’t carry cash; I only have checks and a debit card. Dave Ramsey advises people to use cash because spending cash emotionally affects you; you’ll think more about what you’re spending if you use cash. I’m confident that he’s correct about that, but for me the opposite is true. Cash flows through me. But I hate seeing my “balance” in my personal money “account” go down when I use my debit card, so I will think twice about using a debit card. Cash, however, is free game.
So anyway, I called Visa again yesterday to ask a LIVE person when and if I could expect a new card. She verified that when I use the automated system, it does indeed automatically spit out a new card. Her computer shows that the card was mailed on April 4th. So where the heck is it??
I told her that we recently moved, but we had already changed our addresses in their system. She verified that the address under my name was our new one; she even checked the address under Michael’s name and it was correct also. However, she told me that the address listed with the card was not correct. My new card was sent to the old address.
So…in their computer, my debit card is listed separately from me, its owner? How can I update my address without updating the address with which my debit card is associated? I never thought that I would need to specify that my debit card moved with me! I’ve just got one more question: what address is our money associated with??
